eduTrac is a really robust college management system that allows you to manage the majority of daily tasks with ease. However, due to its size and data collection, it really isn’t ideal to run it on a shared hosting environment. It may be cost effective at first, but when your data starts getting into the thousands, a shared hosting environment will not be enough. Furthermore, if you are using the ERP edition of eduTrac, then you should not even think of installing it on a shared hosting environment.
The ideal solution for running eduTrac is on a VPS or dedicated server. If you have the choice, it is best to setup a VPS or dedicated server powered by Nginx with the appropriate rewrite rules. On top of installing Nginx, you should also install APC for caching to give you that extra mileage behind the system.
If you don’t have a choice and have to install Apache for some reason or another, make sure to use APC or some equivalent PHP caching. Lastly, you want to make sure your server has enough RAM. If eduTrac is the only application installed on your VPS or dedicated server, then 2GB of RAM should be more than enough. However if you are planning on running multiple applications on your server, then you should consider bumping that up to 4-6GB of RAM.
